Newbiggin Sports & Community Hub

A £2m refurbishment has taken place at Newbiggin Sports & Community Hub which is one of a series of investments by Northumberland County Council across the county’s sports facilities aimed at providing local communities with much improved leisure amenities.

Following the renovation, the centre has provided new and improved facilities including, a newly dedicated spinning studio, while the first floor has been converted into a new gym area with weights and state-of-the-art cardio equipment. The squash courts and viewing gallery have also been refurbished alongside the six court sports hall.

The scheme of works included upgrades to the community facilities available at the centre, which saw the relocation of the library and the creation of a community café, bar and hub area. There are changing and toilet facilities for adults with additional needs or older children who need privacy and space. In addition to this, £250,000 funding has been secured from The Football Foundation to redevelop the external football pitches to the rear of the site, which will continue to be used by a number of local teams.

The project was designed by Howarth Litchfield Architects, built by Brims Construction Limited and has been project managed by the team at Advance Northumberland.

The Sports and Community Hub opened its doors September 2022.
