Australian Software Development System supplier expands operations to the UK

Spydertech, an Australian software development company from New South Wales have expanded its operations globally and have landed with an initial virtual office at The Core building in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This marks the start of the company establishing its global HQ in the city.

The SpyderTech company was borne from a successful history of creating powerful workflow management systems for a large Australian-owned property maintenance service provider. Customers asked for SpyderTech solutions to enhance their own business workflows, which SpyderTech achieved by engaging and collaborating directly with users.

With over 20 years’ experience and success, SpyderTech excels at optimising processes to deliver operational benefits to its customers with distributed asset bases. SpyderTech has taken this invaluable knowledge to create a streamlined work management system that suits a broad range of assets across various industries and businesses e.g., property assets, plant and equipment for social housing, disability sectors, insurance, councils, real estate, building and construction, subcontracting, energy, utilities and manufacturing.

The company has an exciting user-intuitive product and SpyderTech identified that it can help companies and individuals globally with their administration of workflows and asset management plans. Economically, Australia is a very small country, and wanting to help the rest of the world, the founders had connections to the UK. The UK business landscape is also very similar to that of Australia, therefore, it wanted to start its global journey from here in England.

With assistance through the North of Tyne Combined Authority Inward Investment Capacity Fund, SpyderTech has been supported by Offshore Wind Sector Specialist, and DBT Global Entrepreneur Programme Dealmaker, Dr Alan Lowdon OBE, to establish its presence in the North East of England. The funded programme seeks to bring more investment to Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland focusing around the digital, health and life sciences, electrification, corporate services and offshore wind sectors.

The company will make The Core, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, its first home in the UK by initially taking a virtual office to house its very first UK member of staff starting imminently. The company’s ambition is to scale up from this position and, within 18-24 months, to have a physical office in the city with around 15-20 members of staff.

SpyderTech understands the challenges of looking for, finding, and using an efficient asset management planning system. It’s not just Australian entities that struggle to manage their assets and supporting administration in an efficient manner, it’s a worldwide issue.

Ricci Schwarzler CEO and Founder of SpyderTech at SpyderTech said: “We at SpyderTech are very excited to be launching our innovative workflow management system in the UK and more specifically choosing the North East as our UK base. We see the region to be an exciting, vibrant area that will support inward investment and will be a perfect springboard to enable us to meet and exceed our planned expansion.”

Elected Metro Mayor for the North of Tyne, Jamie Driscoll, said: “We've long since known that the North East is one of the best places in the world to live and work. And we have invested heavily to ensure the North East becomes a hot-bed of digital innovation.

Now the word is spreading across the globe! A big welcome to SpyderTech, from Australia. That they'll be setting up their UK home here - and creating more jobs - is fantastic news. I am glad we could support them with their exciting plans.”

Dr Alan Lowdon OBE, Dealmaker, DBT (formerly DIT) Global Entrepreneur Programme & Senior Sector Specialist – Offshore Wind - Advance Northumberland said;

“I first met the founder and CEO, Ricci Schwarzler, at London Tech Week last year (June 2022). This was in my capacity as a Dealmaker (Entrepreneur-in-Residence) for (the now) DBT Global Entrepreneur Programme.

It was immediately clear to me that SpyderTech had something special to offer companies with ageing, distributed assets that need regular, often prescribed maintenance. This includes my passion - offshore wind assets! My complementary, regional Offshore Wind Sector Specialist role meant that I was immediately able to introduce Ricci and her Head of Business Development, Michael Shade, into the Advance Northumberland business support ecosystem”.

 Following a few months of establishing rapport and promoting the North of Tyne region to Ricci and Michael, the decision was taken to ignite the company’s international expansion from the Centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. So, from Newcastle, New South Wales to Newcastle upon Tyne, the journey for Ricci, whose family hail from Stanley, Co. Durham is complete”.
