Northumberland's Manufacturing and Engineering Industry Continues to Thrive

Northumberland is known for its breath-taking natural beauty and rich history. With its vast land and long coastline, the county is also an ideal place for renewable energy businesses and thanks to the history of mining in the county, many skilled industry workers. The manufacturing and engineering sectors in Northumberland are well established and we recently caught up with Red Engineering to talk about the work they’re doing in the region.

A Passion for Engineering

With a team of just 31 people, RED Engineering are doing a fantastic amount within the UK’s engineering space.

Based in Hexham, Northumberland, they have traditionally provided pragmatic engineering solutions within the offshore energy industry but have diversified into delivering specialist engineering support into the nuclear decommissioning sector. They have been working with a number of nuclear clients and are helping towards solving some of the major nuclear decommissioning challenges. With their experience in the energy and nuclear industry, they are looking forward to engaging with interesting opportunities in the growing Floating Offshore Wind space.

As a specialist engineering consultancy, RED Engineering work with businesses to devise innovative solutions, engineer equipment and provide testing services for their clients. They are currently expanding their testing facilities, having recently bought land which will soon be the RED Engineering Technology Centre (RTC). The RTC will be a huge investment into Northumberland to provide a specialist engineering and testing facility for businesses that are interested in de-risking their technologies through engineering testing.

Not only are RED Engineering passionate about the work they do, they are also passionate about their social impact and training the engineers of the future. Last year, they had a number of students across schools from Northumberland and Cumbria for three weeks. Over the their time, they took the students through what they do for their clients, the solutions they provide and what it takes to be an engineer. They have previously sponsored students through university to help with their engineering careers and retain the amazing talent in the region.
