Showcasing the power of communities and Northumberland’s progress towards net zero

Solution providers, experts and communities are invited to come together to showcase some of the progress being made towards net zero in rural Northumberland and understand how to increase the impact.

The event, to be held on 7th March at the Rivergreen Centre, Stannington, will demonstrate some of the successes that communities have achieved when working collaboratively, as well as providing an update on the newly formed Northumberland Energy Co-Operative and work that has been undertaken within the County to provide PV and battery storage for community buildings.

Experts will discuss the steps to plan, design and implement renewable energy solutions, plan EV charging infrastructure, and discuss sustainable transport opportunities.

Guest speakers will cover areas such as Northumberland County Council’s Climate Change Action Plan, the lessons learned from installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure across rural counties and strategic plans for tackling congestion and emissions caused by tourism hotspots. Attendees will also hear from both specialist consultants and community leaders to learn more about the huge potential for Northumberland that can come from community renewable energy, as well as practical advice for planning and delivering projects.

Hosted by the Rural Design Centre Innovation Project, Liz Gray, Senior Innovation Manager, commented “We have worked with some inspiring communities and SMEs through this project, and are excited to share some of the innovation that is being developed across the region. We are looking forward to celebrating the success of the new products and services now available, and to hear more plans for ongoing journey to net zero.”
